
Jazmine Sullivan was born and lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam the mother of Jazmine is a former backing singer for Philadelphia International Records. When she was five Her father was appointed to be the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. Their family eventually moved into this historic building. In 2005, she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of singer-music major. Sullivan was first singing in the kids' chorus in the contralto position, before joining the adult choir just a few years later. Sullivan did not get exposed to secular music until he was a teenager. "I started singing solos in church, and somebody was urging me to sign up for a gospel recording when I turned 11. But I wasn't ready to do that," she says. "Then the time came that McDonald's held a contest for kids in major cities and I was offered the chance to perform 'Accept What God Does' on Showtime in the Apollo and the audience were very supportive". Stevie Wonder sang her part during his 13th birthday celebration. Sullivan, at age 15 was signed for the first time to Jive Records. She recorded an entire album. However, the album was never released. Sullivan was later dismissed on the labels. She had a good working connection with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced some of her tracks and tracks, such as "Backstabbers", which was produced by Timbaland.
